On the 24th of July, Masatora Kawano won the silver medal in a new men's 35km racewalk in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
Kawano fought a close battle with Massimo Stano (Italy) with 4 kilometers remaining but unfortunately gave up the gold medal by one second.
Kawano, who suffered from anemia six months ago, commented that he was "happy" about winning the silver medal. Stano praised his rivals for the championship, saying, "Kawano had a great race. Today I had to change pace several times to win. He really exhausted me."
