China approves $ 50 billion for construction projects to receive environmental deregulation

The Ministry of the Environment of China announced on the 21st that a construction project totaling more than 380 billion yuan ($ 56.22 billion) has been approved due to the relaxation of environmental regulations. However, companies that violate the law will continue to be severely punished.

The ministry announced late last month that it has simplified its environmental assessment system to expedite approval procedures for large projects in areas such as infrastructure and transportation. He stated that he would do his utmost to support large-scale construction projects such as expanding the supply of coal and water.

The Ministry of the Environment explained at a regular press conference that this measure was aimed at "stimulating the vitality of the market." He said 16 large projects have already been approved under the new system.

New construction projects in key areas such as energy and transportation are not assessed by the degree of pollution, and some projects may be completely exempt from environmental assessment, according to an announcement last month.

This has raised concerns that China's environmental measures will recede, but the ministry has stated that companies that submit false environmental data will continue to be severely punished.
